Governor Paterson talks about Barack Obama’s Victory!

“I would like to offer heartfelt congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama on this momentous achievement. This was a hard-fought contest that has given millions of Americans a renewed sense of civic engagement.

“The election of the first African-American President of the United States is an extraordinary and historic moment, not only for our country, but also for the world, where it will serve as a beacon of empowerment across societies. This victory represents a new promise, a realization of the long-held dreams of generations of Americans who have fought and continue to fight against the ugliness of inequality in all its forms.

“This election has captivated our nation and the world for the last two years, and now we must set aside our differences and join together to support the new administration. There is no doubt that our nation, and our state, is facing enormous challenges, the worst we have seen since the Great Depression.

“If we are to truly confront these problems, it will require a level of cooperation and bipartisanship unlike any we have seen. New York stands willing to do its part as the nation pulls itself out of this crisis. We have a lot of work to do at every level of government, but we also share a new resolve to accomplish great things together in the months and years to come.”
